Gelco Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Most Gelco repairs take one visit, and every job starts with a written price before any work begins, never a phone estimate. If you’re searching because your Gelco unit won’t light, produces weak flames, or hasn’t been inspected in years, this page covers what actually goes wrong, what repairs cost, and how we document every fix. Call (857) 567-8887 for a free estimate.

We’re an independent Gelco service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop. That matters because we recommend the right part for the failure, OEM or quality aftermarket, without a factory agenda pushing a replacement unit you may not need.

How Gelco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Pilot assembly failure on Gelco direct-vent gas units. The pilot tube and thermopile sit directly in the flame path, and after five to seven Boston heating seasons, mineral deposits from the gas line build up on the thermopile tip. The symptom is a pilot that lights but won’t stay lit when you release the knob. We clean or replace the pilot assembly, check millivolt output, and confirm the gas valve opens within spec. Parts run $120 to $280 installed, depending on the model year.
  • Glass seal degradation on Gelco gas fireplace fronts. The high-temperature gasket between the glass and firebox frame compresses over time. On Gelco units in condos and older triple-deckers along Dorchester Avenue, we regularly see this gasket dried out by indoor heating, which lets room air into the combustion chamber. The flame gets lazy and yellow instead of sharp and blue. We replace the gasket and reseat the glass for $95 to $160.
  • Vent termination blockage on direct-vent Gelco installs. Boston’s freeze-thaw cycles push ice, leaf litter, and old mortar crumbs into wall terminations, especially on north-facing exposures in Back Bay and the South End. A blocked termination causes the unit to short-cycle or shut down entirely. We clear, inspect, and reseal the termination. Service call plus clearing runs $140 to $190.
  • Log set and burner pan deterioration on Gelco vented gas logs. The ceramic fiber logs hold up well, but the burner pan underneath corrodes from condensation during humid Boston summers. The flame pattern becomes uneven, with yellow tips and soot on the logs. We replace the burner pan and reposition the logs to spec, $200 to $340 for most Gelco log sets.
  • Damper seizure on Gelco wood-burning fireplaces. Boston’s coastal air carries salt that accelerates rust on cast-iron dampers. A seized damper won’t open, which makes the fireplace unusable, or won’t close, which drafts heated air out all winter. We free or replace the damper assembly, $180 to $450 depending on access and whether the throat needs new refractory panels.

Our Gelco Fireplace Services Process

Our Gelco Fireplace Services Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers. We collect the model number from your unit’s rating plate and assign a named technician with a scheduled arrival window.
  2. 2
On-site diagnosis. The tech arrives in uniform, checks the unit’s draft or gas pressure, and runs a camera-scan on the flue if the unit vents through one. You see what we see, in real time.
  3. 3
Written scope and price. Before any work starts, you get the repair scope, the exact part needed, the price, and the warranty in writing. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: have it in writing.
  4. 4
The repair. We install OEM Gelco parts where warranty preservation matters, or quality aftermarket parts where the savings are real and the reliability is equal. No surprises mid-job.
  5. 5
Test and document. We fire the unit and confirm flame pattern, draft, and safety shutoffs work. You get a photo record of the completed work; that’s Clause 4, and we’ve been doing it since 2009.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. If it malfunctions within a year, we return and make it right. The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we.
