DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown in Boston: What to Know First

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney cap and crown replacement across Boston, and most jobs are quoted in writing and completed within three to five business days. A standard DuraFlex cap replacement on a single-flue chimney runs $340 to $680 in Boston, while crown repair with coating typically lands between $600 and $1,100 depending on access and the condition of the masonry underneath. We are an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a factory-authorized shop, which means we stock both OEM caps and proven aftermarket options and recommend whichever actually holds up better on your roofline.

This page is for DuraFlex owners in Boston who need a cap or crown addressed and want to know what it costs, what fails, and what documentation they’ll walk away with before anyone climbs a ladder. Call (857) 567-8887 and you’ll get a live person, a scheduled visit, and a written price before any work begins.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Single-flue cap base corrosion on older DuraFlex stainless models. The DuraFlex single-flue caps from the mid-2010s used a galvanized base ring on some Boston installs. Salt air off the harbor and New England freeze-thaw cycles rust those bases at the weld points within six to eight seasons. We replace the entire cap with a full-stainless unit, not just the mesh, because a corroded base can’t seat properly and lets water ride the flue tile.
  • Multi-flue cap mounting brackets loosening on brick crowns. DuraFlex multi-flue caps mount to the crown with lag brackets. On older Boston triple-deckers where the crown was poured thin, those lags crack the crown edge within a few winters. We see this on Dorchester and Southie rooflines regularly. The fix is removing the cap, repairing the crown edge with a proper concrete crown mix, and re-mounting with isolated brackets so the next freeze cycle doesn’t repeat the damage.
  • Mesh screen pull-away on the DuraFlex high-wind cap line. Boston gets sustained nor’easter winds that flex the screen mesh on the taller high-wind caps. Once a seam pops, birds figure it out in about a week. We re-crimp where the mesh is sound and replace the screen band where it’s stretched, usually on the same visit.
  • Crown spalling under caps that weren’t sealed at install. A cap is not a crown repair. We routinely pull a DuraFlex cap in Boston and find the crown underneath has spalled, meaning the surface is flaking off in sheets. The cap kept out rain but trapped moisture vapor from the flue. Our crown coating process seals the surface after repair so moisture stops migrating through the masonry. This is a two-visit job: repair and cure, then coat.
  • Aftermarket cap fitting errors on DuraFlex liner systems. Not every “universal” cap fits a DuraFlex liner collar correctly. We’ve corrected plenty of Boston installs where a generic cap was set on with sheet-metal screws at an angle, leaving a gap at the back. We use caps sized to the actual liner diameter, verify the draw with a smoke test, and document the fit with photos. If the liner itself is compromised, we also service HeatShield and Gelco liner systems, but we won’t sell you a liner unless the camera shows you why you need one.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. You reach a live person at (857) 567-8887. We book the visit and assign a named, background-checked technician. You get a text when they’re en route.
  2. 2
On-site inspection. The tech walks the roofline, examines the cap and crown, and runs the camera down the flue. This is an NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection, and it’s included with every visit. The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we.
  3. 3
Written scope and price. Before any work begins, you get a written scope, a written price, and a written warranty. This is Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. No phone-call estimates, no vague ranges, no surprises.
  4. 4
Parts decision. We tell you whether OEM DuraFlex parts or a quality aftermarket option makes sense for your chimney, based on what we found. You approve the part before we order or install anything.
  5. 5
Repair or replacement. We remove the old cap, repair or coat the crown as needed, install the new cap, and run a smoke test to verify draft.
  6. 6
Documented record. You receive photos of the finished work, the camera footage from the inspection, and your written warranty. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a photo record on every job, and we’ve been doing that since 2009. The job is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

What DuraFlex Chimney Cap & Crown Costs in Boston

Prices below are for a typical single-family Boston chimney with safe roof access. Steeper rooflines, multi-flue systems, or scaffolding requirements move the number up, and we’ll tell you that in writing before you commit.

Job Boston price range
Single-flue DuraFlex cap replacement $340 – $680
Multi-flue DuraFlex cap replacement $520 – $1,050
Crown repair with coating $600 – $1,100
Full crown repair plus cap $850 – $1,650
Camera-scan inspection (included with all visits) $0 with any repair

What moves the price on a DuraFlex job in Boston is access and crown condition. A third-floor cap on a Dorchester triple-decker with a steep pitch costs more than a ranch in West Roxbury. Why Boston Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Boston for DuraFlex Work

Corrine Halstead built our crew’s reputation on documenting what we find, not on telling you what you want to hear. We’ve completed more than 38,000 chimney inspections and cleanings across Greater Boston since 2009, every one with a written price before work started and a documented photo record when it was done. If we tell you a DuraFlex cap needs replacing, you’ll see the corrosion in the photos. If the crown can wait another season, you’ll hear that too, with the measurements to back it up.

We service DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco systems, which means we’re not pushing one brand. We’re pushing the right fix, with our materials procured through Haven’s buying network specifically to keep Boston customer prices honest. Calls are answered by a live person 24/7.
