A Level company - serving Boston, MA

DuraFlex Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Repair in Boston: What to Know First

DuraFlex chimney repair in Boston typically runs $400-$1,800 depending on whether we’re addressing the liner itself, the crown above it, or the masonry around it, with most jobs completed the same week we inspect. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop, which means we repair against what the camera shows us rather than what a warranty department decides. If you own a DuraFlex liner or chimney system and something looks wrong, call (857) 567-8887. You’ll reach a live person, and we’ll book a camera-scan inspection with a written price before any work begins.

This page is for Boston homeowners who bought a house with a DuraFlex liner already installed, or who had one put in years ago and now see staining, smell draft issues, or have a home inspector flag something. Corrine Halstead has spent over a decade working on Boston chimneys, and her crews have pulled more DuraFlex-specific failures out of flues than most shops see in a lifetime.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex 316L single-wall liner kinking at the smoke shelf. This is the biggest one we see in Boston triple-deckers. The 316L line is a flexible, single-wall alloy liner that installers often pull through tight offsets. When it kinks or corrugates at the smoke shelf bend, the interior diameter narrows and creosote builds fast. We see this on Dorchester Avenue jobs regularly. The fix is sectioned replacement around the bend, not a full reline, unless the camera shows perforation deeper up.
  • DuraFlex Pro (double-wall) condensation rot at the first flue tile offset. The Pro series handles gas and oil exhaust, but Boston’s damp winters and short, hot burn cycles create condensation that pools at the first offset if the liner wasn’t properly insulated. The inner wall corrodes from the inside out. By the time you see staining on the exterior brick, the inner liner is already compromised. We cut out the rotted section and splice in a new Pro segment with proper insulation wrap, or we tell you plainly if the whole liner is at end of life.
  • DuraFlex SW (smooth wall) joint separation after freeze-thaw cycling. Smooth wall liners use interlocking joints that rely on a tight mechanical fit. Boston’s freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on anything with metal-on-metal connections. When a joint separates, draft reverses or exhaust bleeds into the chimney cavity. Our camera catches this in about ten seconds. The fix is re-seating the joint with the correct OEM locking band, or replacing the joint section entirely if the surrounding metal has fatigued.
  • DuraFlex liner top plate rust-through at the crown line. The top plate sits exposed at the chimney crown, and if the crown wasn’t re-flashed or sealed when the liner went in, Boston rain and snowmelt sits right on that plate. We see pinhole rust-through after 6-8 seasons. The liner below might be fine. We replace the top plate, re-seal the crown, and usually recommend a chimney cap with a proper rain skirt if one isn’t there.
  • Mortar crown spalling above a DuraFlex install that never got a weather cap. This is less about the liner failing and more about the install not protecting the crown. Water freezes in the crown’s mortar joints, the top courses spall, brick face pops off, and now you have water running down into the liner chase. We repoint the crown, rebuild spalled sections, and install a proper multi-flue cap. The liner often survives just fine when we get there before the rust starts.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process

Here’s what a DuraFlex repair looks like when you call Level Two Chimney Boston:

  1. 1
Call and book the inspection. You reach a human. We schedule a camera-scan inspection under NFPA 211 Level 2 standards, which means we’re looking at the entire flue interior, not just what’s visible from the roof.
  2. 2
Camera goes down the flue. We record everything. You see the kink, the rust, the separation, the spalling, whatever it is. Corrine’s rule stands: “The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we.” Nothing gets recommended that you haven’t seen with your own eyes.
  3. 3
Written scope and written price before work starts. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard requires a written price, written scope, and written warranty delivered before anyone touches your chimney. If the liner needs a section replaced, we tell you exactly which section and why. If it can wait a season, we tell you that too.
  4. 4
Parts decision: OEM vs. quality aftermarket. For DuraFlex jobs, we use DuraFlex OEM components when they’re available and the right match for your liner series. If a part is backordered or the OEM markup is indefensible, we source through Haven’s buying network from suppliers like Copperfield or Olympia Chimney. You get told the difference in price and warranty before we order anything.
  5. 5
The repair. We section out the failed component, install the replacement, re-flash or re-seal as the job requires, and document the finished work on camera.
  6. 6
Photo record and written warranty in your hands. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a documented photo record on every visit. You get before, during, and after images, plus a written warranty covering the specific work we did. If it’s not done right within 365 days, we make it right. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

What DuraFlex Chimney Repair Costs in Boston

Here’s what we charge in Boston for common DuraFlex repairs, with no “call for quote” games:

Repair Cost Range
Top plate replacement and crown re-seal $400-$700
Single section 316L liner splice at smoke shelf $600-$1,100
DuraFlex Pro section replacement (double-wall) $800-$1,400
SW joint re-seat with locking band $350-$650
Mortar crown repoint + spalling repair $500-$1,800
Full DuraFlex reline (when required) $2,400-$5,600

Every estimate is free and written. Call (857) 567-8887 and you’ll have a firm number before anyone opens a toolbox.

Why Boston Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Boston for DuraFlex Work

Most chimney companies look at a DuraFlex liner and treat it like any other flex liner. We don’t, because we’ve spent years pulling them apart in Boston flues and we know which series fail which way. Our techs arrive background-checked and uniformed, with their license number on the page and a named tech assigned to your job. You get a text when they’re on the way. And if you’ve got a written estimate from another shop, bring it to us. We’ll give you a free second opinion on it, and we’ll beat the price if the scope is identical. If the repair calls for something beyond DuraFlex, we also service HeatShield and Gelco systems, so you won’t get steered into a replacement just because we only handle one brand.

We answer the phone 24/7. Not a voicemail. A person. That’s been true since 2009, across more than 38,000 chimneys inspected and cleaned, every one with a written price before work started and a documented record when it was done.

Get the price in writing before anything starts.A real person answers, day or night.
